This airfield hosted fighter aircraft during wartime. If you look closely you can see the aircraft shelters under grass along the taxi ways.

Rather than remediating the soil around the airfield, a huge solar array has been deployed to use the large surface area around the (still active) runway to very good use!

Its quite impressive from the air – it looks like a huge, blue lake with a runway floating in the middle of it.
