Ok, for something completely different – I’ve been using a really nifty app on my iPhone on this trip called ‘Word Lens’.
You aim it at a sign in one language and it uses… you guessed it – augmented reality to translate the sign, in place, on your iPhone screen, in real time.
When I aimed it at this door, it said ‘Smoke Forbidden’ in the very same spot on the door.
This sort of real-time translation of language is the tip of the iceberg. Imagine walking down a street with this sort of thing running through something like Google Glass. The whole world would just morph itself into your native language, in terms of text that you can see.
What a world we’re in – the next 5 years will be ‘interesting’ (as have the last 30!) in this realm…
